I had been helping out and documenting the Vans US Open of Surfing since 2013, but never as an artist until 2017 when I was asked to participate in painting the skate bowl. I’ve never ever drawn or even painted anything that large scale, and it kind of kept me up at night hah. I prepared to project it at night and kind of had all these contingencies in case things didn’t work out. In the end I ended up taping chalk to a broom stick and sketching it as if I were sketching onto paper but BIGGER.
